Pro tip: watch out for invasive mint at community garden plots

I pulled 30 pounds of mint roots out of my 4x8 raised bed at the Elm Street garden last Saturday. That stuff took over everything in 3 months. Has anyone else had it choke out their tomatoes like that?

Did you plant it directly in the ground or keep it in a pot first? I learned the hard way that mint needs to be in a container sunk into the soil, or it'll just laugh at your raised bed and spread under the wood. Digging out every little white root piece is key too, because one left behind will turn into a whole new plant next season. I started using landscape fabric under my raised beds after that disaster, and it helped a ton with stopping stuff like mint and bindweed from below.

30 pounds is just life's way of teaching you that everything bold spreads fast until you put a hard stop on it.
