A foreman in Grand Rapids said my perps wandered like a dog off leash, so I built a jig for corners
About 8 months back I was running a crew on a big block job in Grand Rapids and the foreman there, Dave, pulled me aside after he walked a wall I had just finished. He said the perps on the corners wandered, maybe a quarter inch off over 6 courses, and once you stack 20 feet of that it looks bad from the street. I was a little hot about it at the time because I have been laying block for 14 years, but I went back and looked and he was right. Corner blocks are where it starts, and I was eyeballing them like always. So I cut a simple corner jig out of plywood, just two legs squared up, and I clamp it to the block for the first course and the lead. It slows me down maybe 2 minutes a corner. Went back with that setup and the perps came out dead on and Dave never said another word. Has anyone else had a foreman call something out that bugged you at first but turned out to be a real fix?
