My $30 rice cooker died after 11 years, now I'm back to pots and I hate it

The little hinge on the lid finally snapped on Tuesday. It was one of those basic Aroma models, nothing fancy, but it made perfect rice every time for over a decade. Now I'm standing over a pot on the stove, stirring and checking and still getting mushy results. I know the pot method is technically free, but my time is worth something too. Has anyone else had a kitchen staple fail and realized the replacement cost is actually the cheap part?
