Pro tip: I finally admitted hostels beat hotels after a $180 mistake in Lisbon
Honestly I used to book private hotel rooms every trip because I thought hostels meant no sleep and stolen bags. Last month in Lisbon my hotel room got flooded by a broken pipe, and the front desk told me they had zero other rooms and no refund for night one. I panicked and walked to a hostel down the street, paid 22 euros a night for a 6 bed dorm, and ended up getting free breakfast plus a walking tour from a guy in my room. Tbh the earplugs cost me 3 euros and I slept fine, and I still saved around 180 euros over the last four nights. Has anyone else had a hotel fall apart on a trip and switch to dorms mid stay?
