Switched to slow buses instead of the express train and saved $40 a week
I used to always take the express train from Brighton to London for work, costing me £15 each way. About two months ago, I tried the local bus that takes an extra 45 minutes but only costs £5 round trip with a day pass. Now I just pack a book or download a podcast to kill the time, and I'm saving roughly £40 every week. Has anyone else found a slower travel option that actually cuts your costs way down?

Started doing something pretty similar when gas prices went up last year. I swapped my 20 minute highway drive to work for a 35 minute backroad route, and it saves me like $30 a week just on fuel. Honestly, the slower drive is way less stressful too, no traffic jams or aggressive drivers. I just throw on a podcast or audiobook and it honestly feels like time well spent now. Definitely worth the extra few minutes for the savings and the calmer start to my day.

Whoa, hold on, I gotta push back on this a little. I mean, sure, saving $40 a week sounds great on paper, but you're trading 45 extra minutes each way. That's like 7.5 hours a week you're never getting back. In my experience, that adds up fast and eats into your free time, your sleep, or time with your family. Also, those slow buses get stuck in the same traffic jams the express train just flies past, so your 45 minute delay could easily turn into an hour or more if there's an accident. Your mileage may vary, but for me, paying a bit more to get my time back is worth it. Time is the one thing you can't earn more of, you know?
