A trainer in Des Moines told me to stop drilling pilot holes for my cable straps and I argued with him for 20 minutes
I was running 40 drops in a new build out in West Des Moines and using 1/4 inch pilot holes for every single strap, took me forever and my drill bits kept snapping. He said try just screwing straight into the stud with a impact driver on low torque, said the strap heads bite fine and you save the hole step. I told him he was nuts, but tried it on the next 12 drops and cut my time by almost half with zero splits. Wish I had not been so stubborn for the first 8 years of doing this. Any of you still drilling pilots or did you switch over too?
