Learning the hard way that CLA prices vary wild by region

Was quoting a customer in Portland 3 weeks ago for a basic shutter cleanup on a Canon AE-1, $180 seems fair to me. Looked up what other shops list on their sites and saw one in NYC charging $350 for the same work, felt like a gut punch realizing how under I might be pricing. How do you guys figure out your labor rates without scaring off local clients?
