My mentor Gene in Tucson warned me about WD-40 on shutter blades, and now I'm staring at a $400 repair
A retired tech named Gene who ran a repair bench in Tucson for 30 years looked at my Canon AE-1 and said to never spray WD-40 anywhere near the shutter or mirror box, that it migrates and gums up the blades. I figured a tiny shot on a sticky mirror bumper was harmless. Two months later the shutter started dragging at 1/250 and now the blades are coated in a film that will not come off with naphtha. So what are you all using for sticky mirror bumpers, and does anyone have a trick for cleaning shutter blades without pulling the whole assembly?
