Serious question: a retired tech from Portland told me to ditch the air blower on sensor cleaning, now I'm not sure what to think
I was chatting with a retired repair tech named Ray at a camera swap in Portland two weeks ago, and he said he hasn't touched an air blower in 15 years. He claims the bulb kicks up dust from inside the mirror box and makes things worse on DSLRs, and he only uses a wet swab plus a loupe. I've been blowing off sensors with a Rocket blower for about 8 years and never thought twice about it, but he made me wonder if I've been pushing junk around this whole time. On the other side, a couple guys at my local shop swear the blower is fine if you hold the camera face down and use short puffs. So which is it, is the blower a real problem or just old tech superstition? What do you all actually reach for when a customer's sensor has visible spots?
Ray sounds like my dentist telling me to stop eating candy, technically right but I'm still going to do it anyway. Honestly a Rocket blower held face down with short puffs has worked for me for years, and the only time I got in real trouble was when I got too close and huffed spit onto the sensor. Live and learn.
