Garage humidity hit 78% last August, my tire sidewalls started cracking

Been storing my weekend car in the same detached garage for 6 years, never thought about moisture. Last summer I grabbed a cheap hygrometer on a whim, $12 at Home Depot. It read 78% humidity for like 3 straight weeks. Then I noticed fine cracks forming near the tire bead on my 2 year old Michelins. Talked to a guy at a local tire shop and he said prolonged high humidity can accelerate rubber degradation, especially if the car sits for weeks at a time. I bought a basic dehumidifier for about $90 and now the garage sits around 45-50%. Has anyone else dealt with tire damage from storage conditions, or do I just need to drive it more often?
