I finally picked a moisture barrier over a dehumidifier for my barn garage
So I have a 30x40 barn garage outside Omaha and last fall I had to choose between spending $400 on a roll of 10-mil plastic sheeting and taping all the seams, or dropping $300 on a dehumidifier that I'd run every day from spring to fall. I went with the plastic because my concrete floor was already poured and I figured I could just lay it over the gravel after I dug out a few wet spots. Honestly, it took me two full weekends to get it flat and taped right near the center post, and I still have a corner that bubbles up when it rains heavy. The dehumidifier would have helped the air, but it wouldn't stop groundwater seeping through the slab, which is what I was actually fighting. I've had three dry months now with no rust on my hand tools, but I'm curious if anyone else tried the vapor barrier route and ended up regretting it, or if you think I should still add a small unit for the summer humidity spikes? What's your pick if you could only do one?

That bubbling corner would drive me nuts, but at least you're dry.
