My $20 tarp setup beat my fancy car capsule after one brutal winter

I stored my project Civic outside in Cleveland from November to March. First year I bought a $300 car capsule with a blower fan, thought I was being smart. Moisture still built up under it and the seats got that musty smell. This year I switched to a cheap tarp, rope, and pool noodles over the roof line. I added two cheap moisture absorber buckets inside and cracked the windows an inch. After 4 months the interior stayed dry and the paint had zero frost scratches. Has anyone else found the simple tarp method better than the expensive covers?

Pool noodles are the move seriously. I did basically the same thing with my WRX a couple winters ago and the tarp alone beat the hell out of my old cover. The secret is that airflow thing, you gotta let it breathe or you're just trapping all that wet air right against the paint. I also swear by those DampRid buckets, I used two and swapped them out once mid winter. Only thing I'd add is run a bungee cord under the car if you get high winds, tarp flapping can still leave fine swirl marks if it's not snug.
