Showerthought: storing a car on grass vs gravel, my neighbor in Tucson swears by one and I'm not sure
My neighbor Walt in Tucson has kept his 1966 Mustang on the same gravel pad behind his house for 19 years, and the frame still looks solid every time I peek under it. I've had my own project car on a dirt and grass spot for about 2 years now, and after a big monsoon last August I found damp spots creeping up the rocker panels. Walt says gravel drains and lets air move underneath, which makes sense, but a guy at the parts counter said grass is actually fine if you lay a tarp and keep it cut short. I'm torn because gravel costs money to bring in and grass is free, but I don't want to find rust in 5 years. Has anyone here actually parked a car on grass for a long stretch and come out okay, or is that just asking for trouble?
