Heard a framer in Portland say he never crowns a roof without checking his level twice, and it stuck with me
I was grabbing coffee at a job site trailer near Portland and this older framer was telling a younger guy that he checks his 4 foot level on every rafter before he makes a cut, even on a roof he's built a hundred times. The kid laughed it off, but the guy said he caught a 3/8 inch sag on a 24 foot span because he rechecked. That's a $2,000 fix if you catch it after the shingles go on. I've been lazy about that step for a while now. Anyone else have a habit like that they picked up from somebody older on a crew?
