Warning: Loaded the grain wrong on a 12 foot maple board and blew out my planer knives
Happened last Tuesday on a stair tread glue up when I fed a board with the grain running backwards, and the knives grabbed hard enough to stall my old Delta. I flipped the board and took 1/16 inch passes after that, but now I'm out $45 for a new set of blades. Anyone got a trick for reading grain direction on figured maple before it hits the cutterhead?
