Hot take: Dollar store spices are just as good and my $9 chili proved it
Honestly I used to be the guy who dropped $8 on a single jar of cumin at the fancy grocery store in Austin. Last Thursday my grocery budget hit $23 for the week so I grabbed the $1.25 cumin and chili powder from Dollar Tree and made a big pot of chili. It tasted the same as my usual stuff, maybe even a little stronger. Tbh I think we are all just paying for the glass jar and the label. Has anyone else done a blind taste test with cheap spices or am I fooling myself here?
Dollar store spices sit on the shelf way longer and who knows where they come from, so your one pot of chili isn't really proof of anything. Do a real blind test with fresh stuff from a busy store and get back to me.
