My $9 rice cooker died mid batch and I made the worst pot of beans of my life
My old rice cooker gave out last Tuesday right when I was trying to stretch a bag of dried pinto beans into four days of meals. It just clicked off after two minutes and would not turn back on, so I dumped everything into a regular pot on the stove. I added way too much water because I was panicking, then let it cook down for almost two hours until it turned into this weird paste. I ate it on toast for three days because I refused to waste the beans, and honestly by day two I kind of liked it. Does anyone have a cheap backup plan for when an appliance quits in the middle of cooking?
