My $2 cornbread fix after the oven died mid-bake in Denver
Last winter my oven quit right as the cornbread went in for a Sunday potluck, so I finished it in a cast iron skillet over two burners, took about 20 extra minutes and came out better than usual. The trick was keeping the lid on and rotating the pan every few minutes to avoid a burnt bottom. Anyone else had to MacGyver a bake when the appliance gave out?
Love this hack! Had my slow cooker die halfway through a potluck chili once and finished it in a Dutch oven on the grill outside, honestly came out smoky and better than the original plan.
