TIL a bag of dried chickpeas makes 12 cups of cooked ones for about $1.79
I was killing time in the grocery aisle on Tuesday and actually read the nutrition label on a $1.79 bag of dried chickpeas out of boredom. It said a serving was a quarter cup dry, but the bag holds about 2 cups, and those swell up to roughly 12 cups once you boil them. I did the math in my head right there and realized I'd been paying $1.29 for a single can that gives me maybe 2 cups. Soaked a batch overnight, simmered them for an hour with a bay leaf, and now I've got hummus, roasted snacks, and curry base for days. What else am I overpaying for in cans when the dried version is sitting right there?
