The guy who asked me to 'just boil it' for 40 covers

Saturday night, full pass, tickets backed up to 9:40, and a server comes back with a table request. The couple wanted the braised short rib, but the ticket said 'no onions' and they were allergic to garlic. Fine, I can work around that. Then the server says, 'They asked if you could just boil the sauce to get the garlic out.' I stopped plating for a second and looked at her. She shrugged and said, 'I told them you can't, but they want me to ask.' I told her to tell them the sauce is a liquid, not a dish sponge. They ended up getting the salmon. Has anyone else gotten a request that made you wonder if the guest thinks cooking works like a laundry cycle?

Wait, do they think garlic is like a stain that comes out in the wash? Like you can just rinse it away and the flavor's gone too?
