Rant: Ceramic brush rods, I thought they were a gimmick, now I'm not so sure

Been sweeping for 8 years in Pittsburgh, always swore by traditional steel wire brushes. A buddy from a trade meetup kept pushing these ceramic rods, said they last longer on the rough flue tiles we deal with in older houses. I figured it was just marketing hype, so I ignored him for a solid year. Then I did a job in Mount Washington where the steel bristles wore down after just 3 sweeps, and on a hunch I tried his rod setup on the next house. The ceramic held its edge way better, and I could feel the difference on the soot buildup, but the cost is nearly double and I'm still skeptical about the long haul. Anyone else made the switch and stuck with it, or did you go back to steel?
