Soot build up on a 150 year old downtown job
Was sweeping a row of townhouses downtown last Tuesday, the kind with the original clay liners. Read in an old trade journal from the 70s that they used to use wire brushes way too heavy for those, and sure enough, I found a cracked tile on the second flue. Made me think about how we just assume new tools are always better. Popped the camera down and showed the homeowner the damage before I even started. Any of you ever run into old liner issues that a modern brush made worse?

Did the old wire brush leave visible grooves, or was the crack more of a hairline surprise?
