My apartment's recycling bin drama turned into a composting win

Last month, I dumped a bag of food scraps into the shared bin and the super pulled it out, said the whole load was contaminated. That got me thinking about how much waste I create, so I checked my building's rules and found a small composting service that picks up every two weeks for $18 a month. I bought a countertop bucket with a charcoal filter, the smell is actually fine, and I've cut my trash output by about half in three weeks. The first pickup day I felt a little silly standing there with my bucket, but the driver said they service 40 other units in my neighborhood. Does anyone else deal with building managers who treat recycling like a lost cause? How do you get neighbors on board without being preachy?

$18 a month is actually on the cheaper side, most services around here charge like $25. But the charcoal filter thing, you might wanna swap it out every couple months or the smell will come back sooner than you think.
