My driveway looked 10 years younger after one weekend with a pressure washer

I finally borrowed my neighbor's gas-powered pressure washer last Saturday and hit the 15-year-old oil stains on my concrete driveway. The difference was insane - the section near where my 2008 Civic used to leak looked brand new, almost white compared to the gray grime everywhere else. Turns out all that built-up crud from car fluids and tire rubber was hiding the original color underneath. Has anyone else seen this dramatic of a change just from a simple wash, or was my driveway just extra gross?

I remember reading somewhere that pressure washing is basically exfoliating for your driveway, and it sounds like yours needed a serious scrub. That stark contrast between the clean and dirty parts is always jarring at first, like when someone gets a fresh haircut and you realize how ragged it was before. You probably just got a good look at what fifteen years of neglect looks like, but it's nice to know the color was still in there somewhere.

So is the dirt just sitting on top all those years or does it actually soak into the concrete?
