Can we talk about what the guy running the Mazak next to me pointed out about my dial indicator setup?
I was setting up a bore gauge last Tuesday when Dave, who has been running lathes at our shop in Cleveland for 22 years, stopped me and asked why I was zeroing off the chuck instead of the spindle bore. He showed me his way takes about 90 seconds and holds within half a thou, while my old method had been drifting on me for months and I never figured out why. Anyone else had a veteran operator flip their whole setup routine on its head like that?
