TIL my old lead hand was right about backlash, and it cost me 40 parts to learn
Ran a batch of 40 aluminum brackets last Tuesday on the old Haas at our shop in Modesto and every one of them came out .006 oversize on the bolt holes. My lead hand Dale looked at my setup and just said, you never check your backlash, do you. He showed me how to dial in the comp and now I check it at the start of every shift before I cut a single part. Anyone else get burned by backlash on an older machine before you started checking it?
