Chased a phantom network outage for 9 hours because of a $6 cable tester
Last month at our office in Tampa I burned almost a full workday chasing random drops on a client's floor, swapping switches and re-terminating jacks, all because my cheap tester said every run was good. Turned out it never checks crosstalk, and one run was picking up noise from a fluorescent ballast. Bought a $180 Fluke after that and found the bad cable in about 4 minutes. What tester do you all actually trust when the cheap one lies to your face?
