Vent: found a router zip tied to a ceiling tile at a client's office, and that's not even the worst part
I was at a dentist's office in Mesa doing a network drop swap when I looked up and saw a consumer router just hanging there, zip tied to the metal frame of a ceiling tile. The thing had 3 inches of dust on it and a sticky note that said "DO NOT UNPLUG" in red marker. The front desk lady told me the last IT guy put it up there because the signal was better for the back exam rooms. So I checked, and the cable running to it was 60 feet of flat ethernet stapled along the drop ceiling, then spliced with electrical tape to a patch cord. It's been running their whole billing setup for what she thinks is about 2 years. Has anyone else seen a setup where the ceiling was basically acting as a server rack, because I need to know I'm not alone here.
