Shoutout to the old finisher in Sacramento who made me try a wood float on a broom finish
I've been running a screed and mag float on everything for 12 years and honestly thought wood floats were just something old timers talked about. Had a guy on my crew named Ray, been pouring for like 35 years, kept telling me to try a wood float on this 30x40 slab we did in Sacramento last spring before I hit it with the broom. I blew him off for weeks because it sounded like extra work for no reason. Finally tried it on a small pad out back of a shop and the cream came up so even that my broom lines looked like they were printed on there. I've done about 8 pours since then with the wood float step and not one call back about finish complaints, which never happens for us. So yeah, I was wrong and Ray was right, and I had to buy him lunch for a week. Anyone else here use a wood float before brooming or is that just a West Coast thing?
