Rant: The $120 range finder that made me a true believer in laser measuring

Bought a cheap laser range finder last fall for $120 after my tape measure kept slipping on long runs. Used it to map out my backyard shed project, and turns out my property line was 4 feet off from what the county showed. That little device saved me from building a fence on my neighbor's land, and the county clerk even confirmed the old survey was wrong. But I'm curious, has anyone else had a cheap tool reveal a bigger issue than you expected? Or did it just waste your money like my buddy's $60 one that died after two uses?
