I cut my client's hair with a $40 shears from the beauty supply store and then with my $200 Japanese shears. The difference wasn't subtle.

Watched my buddy try to fix his own fade with some clippers he found in a bargain bin. He ended up with a bald patch the size of a coaster and had to shave his whole head. Cheap tools will absolutely betray you.

My old barber in Chicago swore by his $300 shears, said they stayed sharp for years. I never really got it until I tried cutting my own bangs with some cheap kitchen scissors. The result was so bad I had to wear a hat for a month. Good tools just do the job right the first time.
