I stopped using foils for balayage and switched to hand painting, my timeline dropped by 40 minutes
After my Portland appointment last March ran 2 hours longer than I quoted, I watched the stylist paint over a plastic bag and it clicked. Now I section with clips and freehand everything, but I still worry about even saturation on thick hair. Anyone else make this switch and notice their client retention from that look?

Guessing my client retention went up just because they were shocked I actually finished on time for once. The plastic bag trick works until it doesn't, I had one melt and smear toner all over a blonde's neck, looked like a shampoo commercial gone wrong. Thick hair is a gamble every time, I just section thinner and pray my wrist holds up. Honestly the 40 minutes I save goes straight into fixing patchy spots I missed while freehanding. But hey, at least no one's getting foil lines anymore, unless they want that retro 2008 look.
