Pro tip: I hated subtitles until a busted AC unit in Phoenix forced me to watch movies on mute
Last weekend my AC died and the fan was so loud I couldn't hear a thing, so I turned on Parasite with subtitles just to follow along. I always thought reading while watching was a pain, but 10 minutes in I caught jokes and little background signs I missed the first time. Then I went back to a few other movies I thought I knew and realized I'd been missing half the dialogue. Now I keep them on even with the sound up. Anyone else start doing this by accident and never go back?
Subtitles are also a lifesaver when actors mumble or the sound mixing is garbage, which is like half of modern movies. You catch way more when your ears aren't fighting the audio.
