Tomato watering hack I picked up from an old forum in 2019

I used to water my Stardew crops and real garden the same way, every day a little. Then I read a tip from someone in Oregon about deep watering every 3 days instead, and my actual tomato plants stopped splitting. Tried it with my in-game sprinklers too, more efficient with the 240 tile farm I set up last spring. Anyone else find real life tricks that translate weirdly well to the game?
