Backyard deck building reminded me why I love hydraulic systems

In my experience, manual labor just doesn't compare to machine precision.

Lifting those heavy deck joists by hand is such a pain. Hydraulic tools just take the raw grunt work out and let you focus on getting things level and square. There's something satisfying about the smooth, controlled power that you just can't get from muscle alone. Makes a huge difference when you're trying to set a post or tamp down gravel without killing your back.

My buddy was building his deck last summer and almost threw out his back trying to lift those joists. He kept complaining about how slow and painful it was. Then he borrowed a hydraulic jack from his neighbor. Suddenly, he could position everything perfectly without killing himself. The control was insane, like night and day difference. Now he won't shut up about how much easier it made the whole job.
