Boom angle sensor gave me false readings for 4 hours in Phoenix
We spent most of a Saturday chasing a load height issue on a Liebherr LTM 1090, only to find the boom angle sensor was throwing a signal that was off by 7 degrees the whole time. A simple dual check with a physical inclinometer would have spotted it in 10 minutes, has anyone else had one fail that badly without throwing an error code?

That 7 degrees off with no error code is the scary part. You'd think the computer would catch a mismatch like that, but nope. If you're going to suggest the physical inclinometer check, I'd take it a step further and mark the boom at a few known angles with paint or tape. That way you can do a quick visual check from the ground without even pulling out the digital tool. Also, those sensors can drift from heat over time, so maybe get in the habit of doing that dual check first thing on hot mornings, not after you've already been fighting it for hours. It's saved me a couple of times on other machines, not just cranes.
