TIL a 30 year operator in Houston told me to stop watching the load and start watching the wind sock, and I finally get why
He pointed at the sock on a gusty lift last Tuesday and said the load tells you what already went wrong, the wind tells you what's about to. I tried it on a 60 foot pick in 15 mph gusts and caught the swing 2 seconds earlier than I would have staring at the hook. So what's the one habit you picked up from an old timer that nobody teaches in class?
