Update: a guy in my writer's group pointed at one sentence and said 'that one's hiding something'
I had been stuck on the opening of my short story for two weeks, rewriting the same three paragraphs over and over. He did not explain what he meant, just tapped the page, so I read it out loud that night and realized I was writing around the real scene instead of just starting there. Now I draft the ugly version first and fix it after, but does anyone else need someone to point at the exact sentence before you can see it?
