Picked a $10 box lot over one $80 lamp at a yard sale in Toledo, and now I check boxes first
Two weekends ago at a yard sale on Bancroft Street in Toledo, I had to choose between a $10 mystery box lot and a single $80 brass lamp sitting right next to it. I went with the box, mostly because the lady running the sale said "nobody ever digs through those," and it turned out to have a working 1950s Hamilton wristwatch and two old Zippo lighters inside. I sold the watch for $140 that same week, so the lamp would have been the safe pick but not the fun one. Has anyone else had better luck with box lots than single items, or is that just dumb luck on my part?
Ever walk away from a box lot feeling like you just missed a winning lottery ticket? I once passed on a $5 box of junk and spent the whole drive home telling myself I was being smart with my money.
