Warning: writer friends, my prompt stash went from 40 messy notes to a real system and it saved my Tuesday group
I mean this with love, but if your prompt folder looks like mine did six months ago, you are sitting on a pile of good ideas you will never find again. I used to keep everything in a notes app, just one long list with no labels, and by the time my Tuesday night writing group at the library in Portland met I was scrolling for 10 minutes hunting for something usable. What changed was dumb and small: I started a plain notebook with one prompt per page and two tags at the top of each page, like "sci-fi" and "short" or "memory" and "dialogue-only." Then I read the group one prompt out loud and made everyone write for 15 minutes, and the number of finished drafts jumped from maybe one a month to four in a single week. The biggest thing I lost was the habit of hoarding prompts that sounded cool but I never actually wrote from, so now if a prompt sits untouched for two weeks it goes into a swap pile for the group. If you are still stuffing prompts into random texts to yourself, idk, try picking 10 and giving each one a real theme label and see if it sticks. What does your prompt stash actually look like right now?
