Why does nobody talk about stealing the ending first when a prompt stalls out?
I was at the diner on 5th last Tuesday and a guy at the counter next to me, English teacher from the high school, said he writes the last line of a story before anything else. He said it kills the blank page for him because then he knows where he is walking. I tried it that night with a prompt about a lost dog and the last line came out in maybe 30 seconds, way faster than I expected. Does writing the ending first work for you, or does it make the middle feel too boxed in?
