Showerthought: my buddy Dale said one thing about my 3 mile walks that flipped how I track them
I walk 3 miles every morning before work, have for about 8 months now. Been logging it in my phone like it counts as a win. Last Saturday Dale came by to help me move a couch and we got talking about it. He asked how many days I'd hit the full 3 miles this month and I said 6 out of 18. He goes, so you're counting the misses. That hit me weird. I realized I'd been writing down every day I fell short like it was a debt, never the days I actually got out the door. So now I put a check on the calendar for every single walk, even the short ones. 14 checks so far this month instead of 6 sad entries. Does anyone else track wins this way, like small ones count, or am I just late to figuring this out?
Something like this happened to me with dishes of all things... I used to look at the sink every night and feel like a failure if there was anything in it. Then my sister pointed out I was only ever noticing the mess, never the nights it was actually empty. So I started flipping it, counting the clean nights instead, and turns out I was doing way better than my brain was giving me credit for. Same deal with your walks, the short ones still mean you got up and moved, which is more than most people do before 7am. The misses only feel loud because that's the only thing we let ourselves write down.
