Rant: I thought the food court was the last thing to go in a dying mall, but I was wrong
Watched the food court at Westfield in Arcadia stay packed 8 months after the anchor stores and 60 other spots went dark, since the cheap rent kept the mom-and-pop counters alive longer than any department store. Anyone else see a food court outlive everything else at their local dead mall, or was mine just weird?
Did you see that article about how food courts in dead malls basically became the last hangout spot for teens and old folks? I read somewhere that the cheap rent and short leases keep those little counters going way longer than the big stores. Kinda makes sense why yours stayed packed.
