Got roasted by a 9 year old at the Riverside art walk over my glow effect, and honestly she was right
Was showing my digital stuff at the Riverside art walk back in April, had my tablet set up so people could watch me paint live. This little girl, maybe 9, watches me for like 10 minutes while I'm working on a knight with this big glowing sword. I was pretty proud of that glow too, spent almost 2 hours on it. She just tilts her head and goes "why does the light look like a sticker" and walks off to her mom. I sat there for a second and then actually looked at my canvas and she was totally right, the glow was just a blurry circle sitting on top of everything instead of actually lighting up the armor. Went home that night and rebuilt the whole piece from scratch, added rim light on the edges, bounced some orange onto his gauntlets, let the glow spill onto the ground. Took me 3 more hours but the before and after side by side is honestly kind of embarrassing. Now I keep a sticky note on my monitor that just says "sticker test" and I check every glow before I call a piece done. Anyone else get humbled by a random kid at an art walk, or is that just a me thing?
