Warning: I said "wheelchair users" at a city council meeting in Boise and got corrected on the spot

Last month I spoke at a Boise city council meeting about a busted sidewalk ramp near Fairview and Curtis, and I kept saying "wheelchair users" the whole time. A woman named Dana, who uses a power chair, pulled me aside after and told me "wheelchair user" makes it sound like the chair is the point, not the person. I thought it was just nitpicking until she pointed out the meeting agenda said "handicapped" in three places and nobody had blinked. How do you all handle it when you mean well but still get the words wrong?
