Cartridge bearings vs cup and cone, my old hub finally made me pick

After 3 years of rebuilding my cup and cone rear hub every spring, I swapped it for a set of Shimano cartridge bearings from my local shop in Austin. The old setup felt smooth at first but would develop play after a few hundred miles, no matter how careful I was with the cone wrenches. The cartridge hub took 20 minutes to install and Ive put 800 miles on it without touching anything. Has anyone else had better luck getting cup and cone to stay tight, or is cartridge just the way to go for daily riders?

Three springs of that ritual is basically a bad relationship, so congrats on the upgrade (or maybe just on finally getting therapy). I bet your old hub is now sitting in a parts bin somewhere judging you, but that 20 minute install sounds like pure freedom to me.
