Blew $40 on a cheap plastic greenhouse and my tomatoes turned into sad spaghetti
I got one of those little zip up greenhouse tents from the hardware store for $40 to get my peppers started early here in Ohio. The zipper broke in 2 weeks, and without airflow everything got damp and leggy. My tomato seedlings grew tall and thin like noodles and then fell over. Now I am looking at real cold frames and do not want to waste more money. Has anyone built one from old windows that did not turn into a moldy mess?

Did you leave the vents open on that tent at all? Those cheap ones trap every bit of moisture and that's what kills you, not the cold. Real frames with old windows work but you gotta crack the glass during the day or you'll get the same rot, the airflow thing is the whole game.
