Grew my pumpkins on a fence trellis instead of the dirt this year and I'm never going back
Last spring I got tired of my pumpkins rotting on the wet ground out here in Salem, so I built a cheap trellis out of 2x4s and old pantyhose slings. The vines climbed about 6 feet up and I ended up with 11 pumpkins that were clean, round, and had zero bug holes, versus the 4 sad rotten ones I got the year prior. My neighbor kept telling me it would never work and that the stems would snap, but the pantyhose held every single one just fine. Now I'm sitting on a porch full of weird hanging gourds and I have no clue what to do with all of them. Has anyone tried this with melons or is that just asking for trouble?
