Am I the only one who didn't know a record lathe cuts a chip, not dust?
I got a used Presto-style cutter off a guy in Cleveland last month and after my first pass I swept up what looked like pencil shavings instead of the fine powder I expected. Did some digging on a lathe forum and found out the sapphire actually shears a continuous thread out of the groove, which is why you need a vacuum right at the head or that chip curls back and ruins the cut. How are you folks routing suction on a kitchen table setup without dragging the whole arm around?
