Finally got the old cutterhead gearbox back together after it stripped out last Thursday.

We were pulling up some really packed clay over by the old bridge pilings and heard this awful grinding sound. Took us half a day just to get it winched up and opened. Found three teeth sheared clean off the main drive gear. Had to call in a favor to a buddy with a machine shop to get a new one cut. Anyone have a good source for those older IHC gear sets, just in case?

Man, that's rough. I read a forum post a while back about a guy who kept having the same issue with an old IHC. He ended up finding a retired mechanic who had a whole shed full of new-old-stock parts for those machines. Said the guy's number was floating around some of the older equipment groups. Might be worth asking in one of those. Packed clay is the worst for that kind of shock load.
